Over the past few years, the world has changed drastically in the political, economic, social, and market spheres, and has become increasingly uncertain, diverse, and complex. The Internet revolution and rapid technological change have brought about innovations in models, efficiencies, and products, driving the emergence of disruptors. Business leaders are facing one of the biggest disruptive changes since the Industrial Revolution and are in urgent need of creative organisational restructuring, and Mainland Chinese entrepreneurs are no exception. In addition, the loss of the demographic dividend, volatile exchange rate fluctuations, homogeneous competition, generational changes in consumers, rising customer expectations and macro policies and regulations controls are also posing huge challenges to the development of Mainland Chinese companies. Facing these challenges, they have come to realise the importance of "corporate strategy" and "talent" in their future development, but the lack of "organisational capacity" to link "strategy" and "talent" has often become the biggest obstacle to the development of Mainland Chinese enterprises. As a result, senior executive talents who can help companies improve their organisational capability have become highly demanded targets for many companies.

Based on the most recent theories and practices of organisational development and change, this programme focuses on the elements of organisational design, talent development and cultural shaping from the perspective of corporate strategic planning.  It provides insights into the needs of all parties in the process of change, enhances the thinking and capabilities of change leaders, and reviews the effectiveness of organisational development, with the aim of developing a new generation of change leaders who can shape and enhance organisational capabilities for their companies.

Programme Design Framework

HKU Institute for China Business - a learning platform for Chief Executive Officers and corporate senior executives, with an equal, interactive, empathetic, and inter-sectional learning model, to look at corporate expansion, organisational change, and marketing innovation from a third-person viewpoint as well as Chinese and international perspectives.

How the chief officers and executives such as CEO (Chief Executive Officer), CTO (Chief Transformation Officer), CIO (Chief Innovation Officer), CHO (Chief Human Resource Officer), and CMO (Chief Marketing Officer) make strategic alignment and collaborative management possible, determine a company's ability to innovate and change, embrace risks, and respond to crises, and leverage innovative technology and diverse cultures to improve competitiveness.

HKU Institute for China Business has built a platform for corporate chief officers and corporate executives, with three postgraduate diploma programmes targeting CEOs, CTOs, CIOs, CHOs, CMOs and other chief officers and executives - Enterprise Expansion and Risk Management (EERM), Organisational Development and Change Management (ODCM), Innovative Marketing and Agile Organisation (IMAO). Not only will the above challenges be explored and answered from the different perspectives in Mainland Chinese and foreign management, but the modules studied in the three programmes will overlap with each other, allowing business executives to find answers from a third-person perspective. In the three programmes targeting CEOs, CTOs, CIOs, CHOs, CMOs and other chief officers and senior executives, all students will stay at Cambridge University to study "Digital Change and Smart Business", discuss "Design Thinking and Strategic Innovation" with experts from Silicon Valley, and explore the legacy and reinvention of corporate culture with academics and experts with cross-cultural management experience. Students of the Enterprise Expansion and Risk Management (EERM) and Innovative Marketing and Agile Organisation (IMAO) programmes will have the opportunity to explore innovation, competitive strength, cultural strength, and leadership in business alongside each other.
