Dr Tim Cheng is currently Senior Programme Director and Principal Lecturer at the University of Hong Kong's Institute for China Business, focusing on curriculum design and teaching of the Innovation Management programmes. He has over 25 years of marketing and management experience with NXP (Philip Semiconductor), one of the world's leading semiconductor companies, mainly in the Greater China region, including major cities such as Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen and Taiwan. His areas of expertise include marketing strategy, channel management and corporate account management.

Dr Cheng is experienced in emerging market exploration and strategic marketing deployment. With more than 15 years of teaching experience, he has enthusiastically taught a number of courses at various institutions in Mainland China and Hong Kong. He teaches courses on marketing, equity design, business plan, leadership, product innovation management, research methodology, project management, consumer behaviour, China business models, corporate governance and social responsibility, brand channel management and strategic management. His recent research areas include ESG and corporate sustainability strategies, equity structure design, higher education development trends, artificial intelligence and artificial intelligence industry ecosystem development.

Dr Cheng has a broad academic background with a Master of Education (MEd - Higher Education, recognized on the Dean's Honours List) from the University of Hong Kong, a Bachelor of Engineering (BEng) in Electronics Engineering and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the City University of Hong Kong, a Master of Science (MSc) in Marketing Management from the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, a Master of Arts (MA) in Philosophy from the Chinese University of Hong Kong and a Doctorate in Business Administration (DBA) from the University of Newcastle, Australia. His main research areas include sustainability (ESG) strategies in corporate governance and corporate social responsibility (CSR), and the development of artificial intelligence (AI) and artificial intelligence industry ecology (AIIE).

In addition, Dr Cheng holds a professional qualification as an ESG Planner from the International Institute for Sustainable Development, is a Fellow of the Hong Kong Institute of Marketing and an accredited professional marketer, a member of the Institute of Marketing, a registered marketer in the UK, and a Certified Counsellor, Institute of Psychology, Chinese Academy of Sciences. Dr Cheng's excellent teaching style has been well received by students, and he has twice won the Outstanding Teacher Award of HKU SPACE 2019/20 and 2021/22.
