HONG KONG - The University of Hong Kong’s School of Professional and Continuing Education (HKU SPACE) is to work jointly with Shenzhen to produce high-end talents with global horizons and fuel the transition of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area into a professional services hub.

The move, revealed by Liu Ningrong, principal of the HKU SPACE Institute for China Business (ICB) and the HKU SPACE Executive Academy (SEA), comes a week after the release of the much-awaited blueprint for the Bay Area’s development.

The two academies are in discussions with the government of Shenzhen’s Futian district -- the city’s central business district – about long-term cooperation plans, Liu told China Daily.

The Futian government will provide permanent teaching venues for the ICB and SEA in Shenzhen, and the first step is expected to be taken this year, he said.

At present, the HKU SPACE is already conducting some teaching activities in Shenzhen at temporary venues.

“The move will make the academies’ programs more accessible to those not only within the Bay Area, but also beyond it,” said Liu.

For the long term, the two institutions and Shenzhen will also work together to set up an affiliated school in the city to provide more professional-orientated programs and courses to meet the community’s growing needs.

The two academies currently offer more than 20 postgraduate programs in various fields, including human resources management, marketing, finance and innovation management. So far, about 12,000 Chinese mainland students have graduated from the ICB and SEA -- 4,000 of them from the Bay Area.

The HKU SPACE is an extension of the HKU, providing full and part-time courses ranging from short and professional courses to certificate, bachelor and master programs in various subjects.

Liu reckoned the HKU SPACE’s plan is in line with the objectives listed in the Bay Area blueprint, which outlines support for higher education institutions from Guangdong province, Hong Kong and Macao in jointly operating education institutions, and encourages the joint development of academic programs, laboratories and research centers in competitive fields.

The development outline also stresses the nation’s plan to develop a talent pool within the area.

The two academies are ready to serve as a cradle to nurture more talents in various professional fields, such as business, medical management, as well as the cultural and creative industries, Liu said.

“A growing number of talents in the Bay Area will be a boost for the development of the professional services industry,” he stressed. Such joint work will accelerate the flow of personnel and talents in the region, and help keep the region's vitality.

In addition, a new three-month program for fresh graduates -- the Mentor and Apprentice program -- is expected to be rolled out in September, according to Liu.

In classes and workshops, experienced experts will guide young students in exploring the industries they’re interested in, helping them to pass on what they’ve learned in future.

“This will enable young people to adapt to their pursuits in careers, and enrich the Bay Area’s talent pool,” Liu remarked.

To date, a number of universities in Hong Kong have set branches or research centers in the mainland cities covered in the Bay Area, including the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong Polytechnic University and Hong Kong Baptist University. The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology also plans to set up a new campus in Guangzhou.

据香港大学SPACE中国商业学院(ICB)和企业研究院(SEA)执行院长刘宁荣透露，这一举措启动于万众期待的《粤港澳大湾区发展规划纲要》发布一周后。

他告诉《中国日报》，这两所学院目前正与位于深圳市中心商业区的福田区区政府探讨长期合作计划。

他表示，福田区政府将为香港大学SPACE中国商业学院(ICB)和企业研究院(SEA)在深圳提供永久教学场地，第一阶段预计今年启动。

目前，香港大学SPACE中国商业学院( ICB )和企业研究院( SEA )已经在深圳租用场地开展了部分教学活动。

“这一举措将使来自大湾区以及其他地域的更多人士，能够了解、参与学院课程”，刘宁荣称。

未来，这两所学院和深圳市也致力于在当地建立一所独立学院，提供更加专业的项目和课程，以满足社群日益增长的需求。

这两所学院目前开设了20多个不同领域的研究生课程项目，包括人力资源管理、营销、金融、和创新管理。到目前为止，香港大学SPACE中国商业学院( ICB )和企业研究院( SEA ) 已有大约12000名中国内地毕业生，其中有4000多名来自大湾区。

香港大学SPACE学院是香港大学下属的一所学院，开设全日制和非全日制课程，包括各类不同学科的短期和专业课程、证书课程、学士、及硕士课程。

刘宁荣教授认为香港大学SPACE学院的规划与《粤港澳大湾区发展规划纲要》中列出的目标一致，《纲要》支持广东省、香港和澳门的高等教育机构开展合作，并鼓励在竞争性领域联合开设学术项目、实验室和研究中心。

《纲要》还着重强调了国家在该区域建设人才储备的计划。

刘宁荣教授表示，在商业、医疗管理以及文化创意产业等专业领域，这两所学院愿意成为培养更多人才的摇篮。

“大湾区人才数量的增长将促进专业服务业的发展。”他强调。这种合作将加速该区域的人员和人才流动，并有助于保持该地区的活力。

此外，刘宁荣教授称，计划于9月推出一个为期3个月，面向应届毕业生的新项目——师徒项目。

通过课堂授课和研讨会的形式，经验丰富的专家将指导年轻学生探索他们感兴趣的行业，帮助他们在未来学以致用。

“这将帮助年轻人适应他们的职业生涯，并充实大湾区的人才库，”刘宁荣教授说。

迄今为止，一些香港高校，包括香港中文大学、香港理工大学和香港浸会大学，已经在大湾区的内地城市设立了分支机构或研究中心。香港科技大学也计划在广州建立一个新校区。
