Mr Young is currently an independent director of both Haifutong Fund Management Company, and OCBC Bank (China) in Shanghai. He also serves as a senior advisor on financial services to Oliver Wyman in the Greater China region for the financial services consulting business, and a senior advisor to two family offices in Shanghai, China. He teaches in the Finance Department of College of Management in National Taiwan University in Taipei, Taiwan., and in the Institute for China Business of Hong Kong University. Together with two other partners, he started a wealth management company in Shanghai, China in 2015, to practice the client centric model.
During 2012 and 2018, he served as a senior advisor to the largest and 2nd largest wealth management companies in China. During 2012 to 2021, he was an independent director of TransGlobe Life Insurance Company in Taiwan. From December 2013 to December 2019, he was an independent director of a mezzanine lending credit investment fund, based in London, UK. During November 2013 and June 2017, Mr Young also served as a senior advisor to a placement agent for alternative private investment funds, based in London, UK on the Greater China matters. From 2015 to 2021, he was an independent director of YingDaTaiHe Life Insurance Company, a JV between China State Power Grid and MassMutual Life Insurance Company in the US, in Beijing, China. During January 2016 and December 2020, he was a member on the international advisory council of an Asia focused real estate investment fund in HK. His involvement in the wealth management industry in China, giving him insights of the needs of the high-net-worth customers, and strategy direction of the wealth management industry. He learned the opportunities, pitfalls, and the successful business models in this industry. He has also gained insights in various types of alternative private funds.
Prior to 2013, he was appointed as the Chief Investment Officer (CIO) of two life insurance companies in China. he has also spent 4 years in Tokyo, Japan as the managing director and CIO of Aetna Heiwa Life Insurance Company, overseeing the merger and acquisition by MassMutual Life Insurance in the spring of 2001, subsequently becoming the managing director and CIO of MassMutual Japan. His experience in managing Japanese insurance assets has provided me with a valuable experience in a zero-interest rate environment.
In addition to his employment in Japan, he has had extensive experience working with several multinational financial companies in the Asian Market through placements in Hong Kong and Taiwan, including Bank of America, Nomura Asset Management, Aetna Life Insurance Company, and the Continental Illinois National Bank. He has also worked in a local fund management company in Taiwan.
His careers with the insurance companies provided him with the experience how the regulator and the regulated companies working together. Years of working in the numerous sectors in the financial industry in the Greater China and Asian region gives me a deep-rooted network in the senior management of the industry in the Greater China and Singapore. He is knowledgeable in Asian capital markets, and global traditional and alternative assets. By serving as an independent director of five companies, he has experienced with the workings of the Board, the sub committees, the corporate governance, interfacing with the regulators, and the emerging but important topics, including ESG, money laundry, transfer of the core computer system, and application of AI/big data in the financial institutions. Teaching further shapes his own independent thinking process and logic framework in the areas of the asset management, financial risk, and internal control. A book, titled ‘the Essence of the Wealth Management” was published in September 2021. he was awarded with the honor of “Excellent Teaching” in 2020 and 2022 n National Taiwan University, and in 2021 in Hong Kong University. He was also the author of the book titled “The Logic of Assets Allocation”, published in China in September, 2021.
