Dr Tao is an Assistant Professor of Strategic Management and Market Foresight at the School of Business Administration and Economics at the University of Delaware, USA, where he also directs the Pocket MBA program. He received his Ph.D. in Strategic Management from the University of Pittsburgh in 2004. He is a member of the Association of University Technology Managers (AUTM) International Career Development and Training Committee, an expert at the TechCast Technology Forecasting Think Tank, and a Senior Advisor to Haiyin Capital. His research on strategic alliances and competitive intelligence has been published in leading academic journals, and he was inducted into the US Competitive Intelligence Hall of Fame in 2018.

Dr Tao has been engaged in strategic management research and teaching since 2000. He has taught strategic management and competitive intelligence at the University of Pittsburgh, Lehigh University, and James Madison University. Beyond academia, he consults and provides training for a variety of domestic and international companies, including ZTE, Mindray, Haier, General Motors, and Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China (COMAC).

As a Research Fellow with the International Motor Vehicle Program (IMVP) at MIT, Dr Tao conducted research on automotive markets and corporate strategy, focusing on the competitive evolution of multinational automakers in the Chinese market, the internationalization of Chinese auto companies, and the development of new energy/green vehicle indices. He has lectured at renowned institutions such as the Wharton School, University of Michigan, Dartmouth College, University of Tokyo, Peking University, and the Berlin Institute of Economics. In 2008, he testified before the US Congress as an expert witness on the development of the Chinese automotive market and industry.
