Dr Zhaoyang Zhong is a distinguished technology investment professional with nearly a decade of experience, known for his ability to bridge deep technical rigour with sharp financial and strategic acumen. His career spans senior leadership and venture capital roles at some of the industry's most respected firms.
Currently, Dr Zhong serves as the Head of Jinqiu Lab, the venture studio arm of Jinqiu Capital. In this capacity, he spearheads technology incubation and venture building, focusing on translating frontier research into commercial scalability. By leveraging the venture studio model, he launches and accelerates high-impact startups that address critical market needs.
His extensive background in the investment landscape includes key positions at top-tier venture capital firms. At Hongshan Capital, he concentrated on incubating technology from premier universities, and at Chengwei Capital, he managed the full deal lifecycle for deep-tech enterprises. Previously, as Investment Director for HRC Group, a global leader in high-performance carbon fiber solutions, he led the company’s investment, financing, while also driving strategic cross-border M&A projects.
Dr Zhong’s portfolio reflects a strategic commitment to foundational and frontier technologies. He has been a pivotal investor in the semiconductor sector, backing industry leaders such as Wuhan Integrated, Yun Silicon, Hestia Power, and X-EPIC. In the new energy and advanced materials space, his investments include pioneers like HRC and Gru Energy. His passion for disruptive innovation is further evidenced by his investment in XPeng Aeroht, a trailblazer in the futuristic field of urban air mobility (flying cars).
His expertise is underpinned by a formidable academic foundation. Dr Zhong holds a PhD in Engineering from the University of Cambridge, a Dual-Degree MBA from the Tsinghua University PBC School of Finance and Cornell University, and a Bachelor of Engineering from Huazhong University of Science & Technology.
Outside of his professional endeavors, Dr Zhong is an avid traveler and maintains an active lifestyle through skiing, basketball, and badminton.
