Professor Joerg Niessing is an esteemed scholar with deep academic and practical expertise in the fields of digital marketing, brand management, and digital transformation. Since 2020, he has served as a Professor of Marketing at INSEAD in France. He has previously taught at leading institutions such as the London Business School in the UK and the University of Oregon in the USA, delivering courses on brand management, digital transformation, and analytics, and has accumulated extensive teaching experience.
His research interests span a wide range of cutting-edge areas, including digital marketing strategy, digital transformation, customer experience strategy, marketing analytics and customer intelligence, brand management, and omnichannel strategy. He has published numerous high-quality academic papers, such as the co-authored work Exploring Customer Journey Mining and RPA: Prediction of Customers’ Next Touchpoint, and has authored influential books like The Definitive Guide to B2B Digital Transformation – How to Drive Uncommon Growth by Prioritising Customers over Technology, contributing significant insights to the field.
Professionally, Professor Niessing brings over 20 years of rich industry experience. He formerly served as the Global Head of Customer Insight & Analytics at the brand strategy consultancy Prophet, where he designed, managed, and implemented comprehensive marketing and brand solutions for numerous leading global B2B and B2C organisations across sectors including fast-moving consumer goods, industrial products, manufacturing, healthcare, financial services, and hospitality. He has successfully led and delivered over 300 projects and proposals. Additionally, he held a management role at the Marketing Center Münster (MCM) in Germany, providing advisory services to several large corporations, and gained experience at prominent firms such as Droege & Company, Henkel, and DaimlerChrysler, working in consulting, product management, and marketing.
Professor Niessing has a solid academic foundation, having earned his PhD in Marketing from the University of Münster School of Business and Economics in Germany in 2005. He has also achieved remarkable success in teaching and curriculum development, having designed and delivered courses such as "Customer-Centric Strategy and Transformation," "Brand Management," and "Data-Driven Business Decisions" for INSEAD’s MBA, EMBA, and numerous custom executive education programmes, earning high praise from participants. His teaching excellence has been recognised with multiple awards, including the INSEAD Executive Education Programme Direction and Teaching Excellence Awards in 2024, and the Financial Times Executive Education Programme Direction and Teaching Excellence Awards in 2023. His teaching case "AccorHotels and Digital Transformation" received The Case Centre award in 2018.
