Prof. Dong-Yan Jin is Clare and Lawrence Fok Professor in Precision Medicine at the School of Biomedical Sciences, and the Senior Associate Dean of the Graduate School at the University of Hong Kong.
Prof Jin is a renowned molecular virologist. His research interest is in viral oncogenesis and innate antiviral response. His several findings on viral pathogenesis and virus-host interaction are considered seminal and ground-breaking. His group found that the virus sensor RIG-I needs an RNA-binding protein partner called PACT to initiate and sustain antiviral response. Their research also revealed how the cancer-causing Epstein-Barr virus uses its small viral RNA molecule to promote cell survival. He uses a combination of biochemical and genetic methods to pursue basic research in the broad field of molecular virology and oncology. Their findings not only derive new knowledge, but also reveal new strategies for prevention and intervention of human diseases.
Prof. Jin is on the editorial boards of several international journals and is Associate Editor-in-Chief of Cell and Bioscience, the journal of the Society of Chinese Bioscientists in America. He has been leading several projects supported by Hong Kong and overseas funding agencies. Prof. Jin is very passionate about high-level biomedical research and cultivating a new generation of scientific research talents. He takes scientific research as a lifelong career.
