Dr. Weili HONG (David) is a pioneer and expert in finance and investment in both China’s and overseas’ capital markets. David is regarded as a leader and KOL in the domestic PE/VC FOF market. He had been a managing partner of the Gopher Asset Management group (China’s No.1 PE/VC FOF management company) from 2014 to 2016, in charge of PE/VC FOFs and direct investments.

David was one of the pioneers of China’s capital market when he joined Shanghai Stock Exchange in its forming stage in 1992, where he served in several important positions and developed China’s first financial futures product. From 1996 to 2003, he had served as the managing director of the securities division of the China Venture-Tech Investment Group (China’s first VC firm, and one of China’s top tier financial conglomerates in the 1990’s), managing research, equity investment, and sales and trading. He was one of the youngest leaders of China’s securities firms at that time.

David also served as a senior executive in a number of domestic and international first-tier financial institutions. He was once the President and CRO of CMC Holdings. At present, he serves as a Venture Partner for several first-tier PE/VC funds.

David is currently an Adjunct Professor in the School of Economics and the International School of Finance at Fudan University, and a Program Advisor of Shanghai Advanced Institute of Finance at Shanghai Jiao Tong University. He is well known for his EMBA and top-executive courses offered at Tsinghua University, Peking University, Fudan University, Jiatong University, Cheung Kong Graduate School of Business, etc.

David is also an experienced and renowned outdoor traveler, a team leader, and the cofounder of Ye-travel Technology Ltd. He led teams of several hundreds of entrepreneurs in expeditions covering more than 80 countries across the seven continents.

David received his Bachelor and Doctor degrees in International Economics from Fudan University, Shanghai, China. He is the first President of the PE/VC Alumni Association of Fudan University.
